A Summary of the Guidelines to Achieving Effective Reading Essay Example for Free

A Summary of the Guidelines to Achieving Effective Reading Essay Effective reading is essential to a learner’s success and it can only be achieved by having the right instructions and teaching methods applied. The instructions must be given in the best way possible to ensure that the learners meet their desired objectives. Instruction implementation should happen in a way that it does cover every form of information technologies, including the networked information which evidently is rapidly growing. The following paper will summarize the guidelines to the achievement of these effecting skills. Effective Reading among Learners Learning reading methods has been found to require a lot of improvement in schools in order to have the learner reading with a lot of ease and without lots of problems. Research has shown that teachers need to employ methods that should help their learners know how to go about their reading. It has also been realised that beginners need to be given introductory skills on reading because this aids in the improvement of their performance and promotes success. In relation to this, the International Reading Association has position statements that guide teachers on how to go about teaching the reading methods. With this in place, there are still controversies over the positions. The controversy comes as a result of some children not applying the methods as taught and hence making it appear as though the teacher has not followed the instruction as stated. On the other hand, as much as there is controversy in methods of teaching reading, there seems to be less controversy in what a child should learn. A skilled reading methods teacher can see their learners and know what to teach to each of the children so that in the end, the teaching methods are effectively taught to the learners. When teaching children reading skills, the teacher must know what to teach to which learner. A child who has learnt letter sounds does not require phonemic lessons, therefore the method employed on every child, depends on the child’s level of advancement in learning. In accordance with this, it is proper that the federal state only offer support and provides resources to the policy makers for them to make the positions because they stand a better chance of formulating the positions. The International Reading Association recommends that the school district must involve the parents in helping the teachers know their children and thus aid in their academic progress. The Role of Teaching Specialists in Ensuring All Children Learn How to Read According to the National Researcher council, it is important that all schools have a reading specialist whose role is to assist children master their reading skills. This is also as a result of the complex situations and the wide range of diversity in schools today. They together with the teachers work to ensure that all children emerge good readers. A reading specialist is a person with educational credentials and therefore, is a professional with qualifications and experience required by the education body and meets the proficiencies of the standards. The specialists may work in one or more of the available education levels ranging from early childhood to secondary to private institutions across to the adult learners. It is recommended that the specialists working with the adult learners need to have more understanding for their learners. Children range from those who are fit and healthy to those from poor backgrounds, those with physical, psychological and emotional problems. There are also those that are struggling to learn English and therefore those with problems as regards their reading require the help of a reading consultant to guide them. The role of a reading specialist in helping the students improve their reading include:- (a) Instructive role whereby the specialist does the work of supplementing and enhancing the work of the classroom teacher who must work collaboratively with the reading specialist. The two can give the instructions in class or the specialist may give instructions outside the classroom if student requires specialized instructions. (b) The specialist also does the assessment of the development of literacy levels. This the specialist may do by observing the student, evaluating the results of the past literacy tests. The specialist also plays the role of coordination with the district and state standards. He or she gives the report on the development in literacy learning. (c) All coupled, reading specialists have the leadership role in that they aid the teachers, administrators and parents to get to understand more about teaching reading. By collaborating with both teachers and parents, they help build good home school connections. This therefore calls for reading specialists to be knowledgeable and be professionally fit to perform their work effectively. Internet and Its Impact on Even Literacy Levels across the Globe In today’s world, the levels of literacy change every time given the availability of the internet. With the technology in place, learners are required to update their knowledge in order to have their literacy levels right. In order to have the learners and the first improving technology at per, a number of factors must be looked into. These include the rapid rate at which the internet is getting into almost all classrooms in the developed nations around the world and therefore calls for proper measures to be put in place to ensure the children get access to it. This is done by having computers connected to the internet in every classroom. Equity in the access of internet in the developed and developing nations should be improved in order to avoid widening the literacy gap between the two sets of nations. Education that is adequate should be provided and development of staff needs to be done to ensure the teachers frequently integrate new literalises in their curriculum. Teachers’ education programs can greatly help in preparing the teachers in using the new instruction technologies. To achieve the desired results, the Professional Literacy Organization should offer support in the provision of creative initiatives and increased access, provide professional development and enhance the teachers’ education program. With the above wanting to be acted on, the public policies must be adjusted in such a manner that reading is not only defined around books but should include the networked information technologies that have become vital in the success of students. Reading must be effectively taught and to achieve this, teachers should make use of professional development to learn new instruction strategies. They should also give equal opportunities to students in accessing the ICT facilities. In general, to have reading teachings succeed; Parents, teachers, school administrators, teachers’ educators, policymakers and researchers must collaborate to have learning maintained at the required standards. Recommendation In order for reading beginners to eventually become successful students, they need to have obtained the necessary skills that mould them into perfect readers. The U. S. agenda aims at improving the literacy performance of students, considering the increasing demands for educating all students to achieve at high levels. It is important that schools have qualified personnel to address the challenges facing the students. Such personnel must include a professional reading specialist as a core member of the educational team. However, middle schools and high schools should have the same instructional support, because effective reading instruction must be guided by reading specialists across all grade levels. In addition to this, networked information technologies require incorporation so that learning meets demands of the rapidly improving education levels. Comparing Internet Privacy in the European Union and the United States :: Internet Private Censorship Essays

Comparing Internet Privacy in the European Union and the United States Introduction Most people regard one's right to privacy as a fundamental right. But how do we define "privacy?" According to Basse, there are three aspects to privacy: freedom from intrusion, control of information about one's self, and freedom from surveillance.1 Certainly, we cannot expect complete privacy in all of these aspects at all times. However, technological advances are making it increasingly difficult for individuals to determine when they can and cannot expect privacy, and what degree of privacy they can expect. For example, at one time a personal conversation taking place far from prying ears would have afforded the participants a very high expectation of privacy. This was no longer the case once directional microphones were developed. Similarly, satellites in orbit high overhead can take pictures of places that had previously been considered private (and do so with astounding resolution). GPS-compatible cellular phones can be used to pinpoint the location of the person carrying them. Computers are another technological advancement that has threatened the privacy of an individual's personal information. In 1977, it was announced that computer matching, which takes previously unrelated files, would be used to reduce welfare abuse.2 Computer matching is now commonplace both within the government and in the private sector. While this type of matching would have been possible without the use of computers (by hand matching hard-copy file, for example), computers have made it practical, relatively easy and inexpensive. With the Internet, organizations can transfer data from one point in the world to another easily and almost instantly, further facilitating the practice of computer matching. In addition, with the rise in popularity of the World Wide Web, the Internet has become not only an information exchange medium, but also an information collection medium. Consider browsing the World Wide Web. Simply by visiting a web page, one has already told the owner of that web site quite a bit of information about one's self. Web browsers routinely send web servers information as part of the hypertext transport protocol (http) request. This information can include things such as the date and time of the visit, the web browser's IP address, the type of web browser and operating system, and the URL of the web page previously visited. In addition, web servers can send "cookies," small files containing identifying information, back to the web browser. In this way, a web server can now uniquely identify repeat visitors to a web site.

Causes & Effects of Academic Cheating

Dusan Micovic EN105 Prof. Rutt 13/10/2012 The Causes and Effects of Academic Cheating Cheating has been an issue for years in academic settings, whether in the primary grades, high school or college. However, definition of cheating remains unclear. It is so widespread and it overlaps with so many academic activities that it does not have a specific, clear, uniform policy on what constitutes academic dishonesty. Parental pressure can also lead to cheating.According to Professor Daniel J. Bauer, parents sometimes coerce their children into attending college by relating horror stories to them about people who never attended college. Parents will tell their teenagers that they will never succeed in life without a college education. These well-meaning parents may even expect nothing but A's on their child's transcript. This parental notion overlooks the possibility that a vocational program may indeed be a better fit for a student. It also increases the pressure these individuals feel to s ucceed, whether in high school or college, or risk losing the love of their parents. Failing a test, for example, is not an option, so they feel they must pass at any cost, even if it means cheating. In a survey by Rutgers University, students felt that cheating is a necessary method to ensure success through high school, college and later in life. Education News has conducted a survey and found that students who are poorly prepared are more likely to cheat than those who studied or completed assignments.Poor preparation is usually a result of laziness, which is indeed one of the biggest obstacles towards academic success. Seeing as overcoming laziness and developing effective study habits might be long and tough road, students prefer taking a shortcut. According to Orment, attitude of the teacher or professor is another possible factor that could drive students to cheating. If the mentor is not prone to offering help outside of class, or is too harsh on grading, this could lead stu dents to cheat.Another practice that can lead to cheating, that researchers mentioned, was weighting a final examination so heavily that failing the test automatically fails a student. The ultimate goal of education is to teach students some crucial concepts and techniques. However, many students don’t have those academic foundations because of the excessive cheating. When cheating is successfully repeated, it easily becomes a habit. Their creativity and sense of responsibility will drop over time, and dependency of cheating will grow. They will leave the education system, with a belief that things in life will always come easy, handed to them on a silver platter. Soon after they step into the work environment they will notice that they were wrong. Accumulated lack of knowledge and skill will make them realize that they are simply not ready. Although cheating can be just a harmless tool of support for years in school and college, it could also produce some serious consequences in the long run, due to its overuse and abuse.

Cloning Could Have some Welcome Benefits for Humanity

Cloning is the process of creating an organism that has an identical genetic copy. Their DNA strands are the same (What is cloning? 2014). In human nature, cloning takes place with the birth of identical twins. Embryo twinning is the process early in the copulation of an organism in which the embryo splits and starts dividing separately. Since they started from the same fertilized egg, the organisms born are identical. Artificially, this can be done in a lab on a petri dish. Somatic cell nuclear transfer is the process in which scientists take a somatic cell, tweak it a little, and insert it into an egg cell. Afterwards the egg cell was implanted back into a â€Å"surrogate† mother and carried to term. This is how Dolly the sheep was made. Human cloning technology is not yet available, although scientists have been working hard to clone certain organs. Scientific technology will one day lead us to this; a human will be cloned and this will lead to ethical questions (Human Cloning, 2014). There are many things to consider, whether pro or con. In the res t of my discussion I will describe several reasons why cloning could be beneficial and why it could be disastrous. Cloning could have some welcomed benefits for humanity. Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States and attacks without warning. When a person has a heart attack, it could be reversed. Healthy heart cells could be cloned and injected into damaged areas, repairing them instantly.Show MoreRelatedArtificial Wombs Will Spawn New Freedoms Essay1148 Words   |  5 Pagesartificial womb, the health safety benefits, the advantages to potential parents, the possibility of gender equality and balanced parenting roles and potential resistance to using artificial wombs.
